Start Your Project"A church building carries a weight that most architecture does not — it must gather a community, elevate the spirit, and endure. This design takes all three seriously."
Institutional commissions demand a different kind of architectural thinking. Where a private house serves one family's life, a church must hold the aspirations, rhythms, and gatherings of an entire congregation. MAF Design Projects approached this Reedemed Church design commission with that responsibility in mind — producing an architectural proposal that is both grounded in the practical realities of a Lagos site and genuinely uplifting in its form.
The design centres on a main sanctuary that is orientated and proportioned to create a sense of arrival and gathering the moment the congregation enters. Ceiling height is used deliberately — generous at the nave, intimate at side zones — to create a spatial progression that reinforces the movement from everyday to sacred. The facade is composed of clean geometric forms with vertical emphasis, an architectural gesture that speaks clearly to the building's purpose without resorting to pastiche.
Supporting spaces — fellowship halls, ablution facilities, and administrative areas — are arranged to function independently of the main sanctuary where needed, allowing the building to serve the community across the full week and not only on Sundays. The full design was delivered as a 3D visualisation package, enabling the church leadership to present the vision to their congregation before construction decisions were finalised.
